AMB 101- Gr. 9 Brass
Students will focus their work on the various aspects of musical performance through the study of a brass instrument.

AMB 201- Gr. 10 Brass
Students will focus their work on the various aspects of musical performance through the study of a brass instrument.

AMI 201- Gr. 10 Band
This course emphasises performance of music
at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.  This course emphasized performance of music at the intermediate level. Students will build on instrumental skills as well as develop music appreciation through exposure to history, theory, and critical listening.

AMI 3M1- Gr. 11 Band
Students will focus their work on the various aspects of musical performance through the study of a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument in a band setting.
Prerequisite: For prerequisite and recommended preparation please see AMU2O or AMU3M/3O or AMU4M

 

AMI 4M1- Gr. 12 Band
This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interpretive skills and the ability to work independently.
They will also complete complex creative projects. This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis and performance of music from the romantic and the twentieth
century periods including jazz, popular,  Canadian and non-Western music. They will work on projects and group presentations.

AMR 201- Gr. 10 Repertoire Jr. Strings/Band
This course emphasizes consolidation of literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Students will analyze informational texts and literary works from various time periods, countries, and cultures; write research reports, summaries, and short analytical essays; complete an independent study project; and analyze the interactions among media forms, audiences, and media industry practices. An important focus will be on establishing appropriate style and using business and technical language effectively.
Prerequisite: English, Grade 11, College  preparation

AMU 4M1- Gr. 12 Music
This course enables students to enhance their musical literacy through the creation, appreciation, analysis, and performance of music. Students will perform traditional, commercial, and art music, and will respond with insight to live and recorded  performances. Students will enhance their understanding of the function of music in society and the impact of music on themselves and various communities and cultures. Students will analyse how to apply skills developed in music to their life and careers.
Prerequisite: Music, Grade 11, University/College Preparation

 

AMV 101- Gr. 9 Vocals
This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding.
They will also learn correct musical  terminology and its appropriate use.
Prerequisite: None

 

 

AMV 201- Gr. 10 Vocals
This course emphasizes performance of music
at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough  understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history.

AMV 3M1-  Gr. 11 Vocals
This course is designed for students wishing to learn about singing and participate in a choir setting.

AMU 101- Gr. 9 Beginners
This course emphasizes the creation and performance of music at a level consistent with previous experience and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity, and imagination. Students will develop musical literacy skills by using the creative and critical analysis processes in composition, performance, and a range of reflective and analytical activities. Students will develop an understanding of the conventions and elements of music and of safe practices related to music, and will develop a variety of skills transferable to other areas of their life.
