AVI 101 - Gr. 9 Visual Arts
This course offers an overview of visual arts as a foundation for further study. Students will become familiar with the elements and principles of design and the expressive qualities of various materials through working with a range of materials, processes, techniques, and styles. They will learn and use methods of analysis and criticism and will study the characteristics of particular historical art periods and a selection of Canadian art and the art of other cultures.

AVI 201 - Gr. 10 Visual Arts
This course emphasizes learning though practice; building on what students know; and introducing them to new ideas, materials, and processes for artistic thinking and experimentation. Student learning will include the refined application of the elements and principles of design, incorporating the creative and design processes, and the relationship between form and content. Students will also learn about the connections between works of art and their historical contexts. Course objectives may be achieved either though a comprehensive program or through a program focused on a particular art form (e.g., drawing, painting).

AVI 3M1 - Gr. 11 Visual Arts
This course provides students with
opportunities to further develop their skills and
knowledge in visual arts. Students will explore a range of subject matter through studio activities, and will consolidate their practical skills. Students will also analyse art works and study aspects of Western art history, as well as art forms from Canada and other parts of the world.

AVI 4M1 - Gr. 12 Visual Arts
This course focuses on the refinement of students’ skills and knowledge in visual arts. Students will analyse art forms; use theories of art in analysing and producing art; and increase their understanding of stylistic changes in modern and contemporary Western art, Canadian (including Native Canadian) art, and art forms from various parts of the world. Students will produce a body of work demonstrating a personal approach.

AWR 4M1 - Gr. 12 Visual Arts – Film Video
This course focuses on photo electronic media and their application in film and video. Students will study the theory, history, practices, and production of film-making.

AWS 101 - Gr. 9 Computer Graphics
Students will learn how to use the computer as an expressive tool for designing a creative solution to a design problem. Developing expertise as an effective visual communicator will be the focus of this course. The study of current trends and developments in new media will support all studio projects.

ASM 301 - Gr. 11 Media Arts
This course emphasizes the development of the knowledge and skills required for the production of media art works (e.g., robo sculpture, photocopy art, computer, animation with synthesized sound). Students will develop an appreciation of the history of media arts through analyzing specific works, and will create media art works using a variety of technologies (e.g., digital camera, photo- imaging software, computer-modelling, synthesizer, videotape, multi-track sound recording).
Prerequisite: Any grade 9 or 10 course in the Arts.
