Calling
all students, teachers, parents, and fellow artists! United Artists for a cause
is happening on Wednesday, January 27 at 7:30 pm. Actress and new author Mia
Kirshner, will be coming to Lawrence Park to promote her book, I live here, and to raise awareness about
the I live
here foundation;
which benefits people around the world who do not have a voice.
Kirshner,
who is best known for her appearances in Not Another Teen Movie, Exotica, 24, and The L- Word, is donating all of the
proceeds from the book to Amnesty International. “Working on the book has
changed how I see the world. Sometimes it left me cynical and raw, at other
times, humbled. Sometimes I was very sad, but the one constant has been the
inspiration I’ve taken from the people that we met along the way”, Kirshner
expressed on the I
live here blog.
This is living proof that this down-to-earth actress is serious about changing
the world.
The United
Artists for a Cause event will consist of all areas of the arts. The audience
will see music, dance, comedy skits and short films.
“The
evening is designed to celebrate the arts and to give all the students in
Lawrence Park a chance to present something artistic,” said the head of the
operation, drama teacher Michael Laidlaw.
“The
purpose of the evening is to raise awareness for those whose voices are
silenced by circumstances they do not control,” added Laidlaw.
It is not
all serious though. Expect some comedic skits reminiscent of last years
Wednesday Night Live. Sam Yoannou, who was a writer for WNL, is the head writer
for this years skits.
“We’re
making some big comedy happen,” laughs Yoannou. “I want all the people out
there to be hit by a series of emotions they didn’t know they had.”
Audiences
can also look forward to live dance and musical performances as well as short
films, which are all created, performed, and put on by the students of Lawrence
Park.
Mr.
Laidlaw, Scott Morrison, Lauren McDougall, Caroline Murchie, Sam Yoannou and
Jess Campbell are heading the event that is presented by the drama council.
Yoannou
added, “We’re really excited for this show. We want to make peoples hearts melt
and get them to support such a great cause.”
