CITIES OF EUROPE PROJECT

 

Each student will prepare a report and presentation relating to a city in Europe.

This project will focus on:

-          Research skills

-           Citing references correctly

-           Presenting information clearly, accurately and concisely

-           Applying knowledge creatively

 

WRITTEN COMPONENT

 

THE CITY REPORT

 

Format:

-  A title page

-  A brief introduction of the country your city is located in – where in Europe it is

    located, the area, the population, the major industries

-   A brief introduction of your city:

    (a) Where in the country it is located

    (b) The population,

    (c) Major industries

          (d) Language spoken

          (e) The physical geography of the area your city is located in - major landforms,             

                climate…

      -  The main tourist attractions, type of tourism (adventure, ecotourism, mass tourism…)                

          be sure to give specific examples

      -  Bibliography

 

      All rough work must be handed in with your report or your report will not be

      marked

 

 

THE PLOT SUMMARY OF YOUR BOOK

 

Summarize the plot chapter by chapter.  You should use only one or two sentences per

chapter.  Focus on what happens in your book, not why it happens. 

 

 

 

ORAL COMPONENT

 

THE PRESENTATION

Your oral report will have three basic components; the focus of this assignment will be the second and third parts.  You will have a maximum of 25 minutes to make your presentation.

If you take more than the maximum allowable time you will lose marks.

 

Part 1

Give an accurate notation of the following:

·           Title of the book    

·           Author’s name    

·           Date of publication    

·           Fiction or non fiction   

·           Where the story takes place

 

Part 2

Briefly describe the plot of your book.  If you have read a series of short stories, indicate the common theme and describe the plot of one of the stories.

 

Part 3

Your assessment of the book

·           Was it well written? Give specific examples from your book   

·           Would you recommend it to others? Why/ why not?  Give specific examples

            from your book.

·           What did you learn about your city from this book? Give specific examples from

            your book.

-           Based on the research you did on your city, do you think the author did a good

            job portraying the city?  Give at least 3 detailed examples that back up your

            opinion.
