COUNTRY CULTURAL PROFILE - Oral Report (20 marks)

You must research the following information for your country and report it to the class before you do your book report.

The Physical Geography (5 marks)

- the climate

- the relief/landscape

The Economy (5 marks)

- the main natural resources

The Culture (5 marks)

- main religions

- main languages

The Push Factor(s) (5 marks)

Push factors are factors, such as unemployment, lack of freedom of speech, political

or religious persecution that make a person want to leave their country and move to a

new one. (In this case Canada)

BOOK REPORT -Oral Report (30 marks)

Your book report will have three basic components; the focus of this assignment will be the second and third parts.

Part 1

Give an accurate notation of the following: (5 marks)

• Title of the book

• Author’s name

• Date of publication

• Fiction or non fiction

• Where the story takes place

Part 2

Briefly describe the plot of your story. If you have read a series of short stories, indicate the common theme and describe the plot of one of the stories. (10 marks)

Part 3

Your assessment of the book (15 marks)

• Was it well written? Give specific examples

• Would you recommend it to others? Why/ why not?

• What did you learn from this book? Give specific examples

Your oral reports (book and country cultural profile) should be no less than 5 minutes and no more than 15 minutes long. If your report is too short or too long you will loose 1 mark/minute
